College of Education conducts Online Final Demonstration Teaching for Practicum Students under Flexible Learning

During the Second Semester of Academic Year 2020–2021, Norzagaray College, through its College of Education, conducted the Online Final Demonstration Teaching of its Practicum students in response to the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The activity was implemented under a Flexible Learning modality, with no face-to-face engagements, to ensure continuity of instruction while safeguarding the health and safety of all stakeholders.

The online demonstration teaching was conducted in two phases. The first phase, the Initial or Pre-Demonstration Teaching, allowed practicum students to present and refine their lesson plans, teaching strategies, and instructional materials through virtual platforms. The second phase, the Final Demonstration Teaching, served as the culminating activity where students demonstrated their teaching competencies in an online classroom setting.

The conduct of the activity was guided by CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 4, Series of 2020, which provides the Guidelines on the Implementation of Flexible Learning, authorizing Higher Education Institutions to adopt alternative modes of delivery, including fully online learning, in the absence of face-to-face classes. The initiative likewise aligned with DepEd’s learning continuity measures, ensuring that teaching demonstrations remained relevant to the prevailing educational context.

The Teacher Education Institution (TEI) and its DepEd partner schools worked closely to redesign the traditional demonstration teaching process and adapt it to the demands of remote instruction. Through constant coordination, mentoring, and feedback, both institutions ensured that the practicum experience remained experiential, developmental, and outcomes-based despite the limitations imposed by the pandemic.

The activity supported the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by sustaining quality teacher preparation through innovative instructional practices; SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by eliminating face-to-face interactions during the height of the pandemic; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through strong collaboration between Norzagaray College and its cooperating schools.

The successful conduct of the Online Final Demonstration Teaching highlighted Norzagaray College’s adaptability and commitment to preparing future educators capable of responding to evolving educational challenges.
