ABSTRACT
This study investigated the challenges and initiatives undertaken by LGBTQIA+ community leaders and advocates in their pursuit of inclusivity within CSJDM, San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. The research explored the demographics of the informants, encompassing age, gender inclination, and years of service within their organizations. The locale of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan was chosen as the focal point with a specific focus on seven informants selected through community referrals. Employing a descriptive methodology, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the informants’ circumstances to address the research questions. The findings indicated that LGBTQIA+ leaders in San Jose Del Monte often encounter challenges related to concealing their sexual orientation due to societal and religious gender norms, thereby hindering their ability to openly express their identities. Moreover, the efficacy of their initiatives is impeded by a lack of social connections, influenced by misperceptions and cultural norms that affect community engagement. In response to these challenges, leaders adopt strategies such as attentiveness, investigative approaches, and the promotion of collective action. To foster social inclusion, the study recommends various interventions, including the celebration of pride events, the provision of tailored training and seminars for LGBTQIA+ individuals, and advocacy for legal protections to mitigate stigma and advance genuine inclusivity.
